Boca Raton Photographer in Palm Beach County, Florida. Photographing Weddings, Maternity, Newborns, Babies, Children, Families, Executive Head Shots and Commercial Photography Since 1986
Yes it’s been a year! On my first blog a year ago I commented on a famous Woodstock photograph, so today I will do the same.
Photograph by Jack Dykinga, National Geographic
“In the green firmament of a slough, galaxies of duckweed are stirred by slow moving waters. Florida’s Seminole call this section of swamp the Jurassic.”
Yea… Can you Beleive it?… LOL just kidding but I have VIDEO!!! I Created this video for the Holidays.
Well this year is almost over and I decided to do something fun for the holidays! I noticed the Statue of Mr. Addison Mizner with his Monkey on his arm, It’s across the way from my studio at THE BOCA GRAND BUILDING in the corner of SE4th and federal. At night it is lit in many holiday colors so this served as my inspiration for this HD video I took with my Canon Eos 5D Mark II and to top it off I “Digitally added” some SNOW! At night I also videoed the colorful lights, it gives downtown Boca a “holiday feel” that I enjoy. Check out these pics and videos I took at night!
Boca Raton's colorful downtown durring the holidays 2009
Here is the statue during the day and behind is THE BOCA GRAND BUILDING.
Addison Mizner Statue with Monkey ( YOU CAN'T MISS IT)
I got a GREAT present for Christmas this year and early to boot… not from Santa but maybe even BETTER!
FROM GOOGLE!!!! It was a regular day today until I went to my mailbox and found this in it….
My Google Envelope
At first I thought it was a regular Google advertisement piece…. but then I read the letter and started to jump up and down, I could not believe what I was reading it was like I won the LOTTERY!!!
My GOOGLE FAVORITE PLACE AWARD LETTER FROM GOOGLE
The letter basically said:“Congratulations! You’re a Favorite Place on Google”…
” Michaela Prescott The Google Local Business Team”
it also included a sticker (they call it a decal) for me to put on my door… so I did, here is the video:
Below is a video from Google explaining this COOL NEW QR code TECHNOLOGY…
Click on my Google Sticker below to go to Google’s page explaining the technology and how to use it.
My GOOGLE STICKER
HOW DID THIS HAPPEN????????
ANSEWER FROM Google website:
How did Google decide which businesses would receive the decal? The list was determined based on the popularity of a business’ Local Business Center listing, as determined by how many times Google users looked for more information about a business, requested driving directions to get there, and more. Google users “decided” based on their actions, and we sent the decals.
How selective was Google in selecting the businesses to receive the decal? Over 100,000 businesses were identified as Favorite Places, representing less than 1% of the 28 million U.S. businesses. We believe that our standards for selecting businesses are as selective or more selective than other companies which have run similar initiatives.
THANK YOU Google (AND MY CUSTOMERS)
P.S. I STILL USE THE GOOGLE MUG YOU SENT ME LONG AGO…
This month’s Historic photograph, comes from AFRICA U.S.A., BOCA RATON ‘s BEST KEPT SECRET!!!!!
Another photo contributed by Phyllis with Machakas.
This is a Whopper of a secret!!! In doing research for this blog post, I came across AFRICA-USA.COM, a website about America’s First Cageless African Wildlife Animal Themed Park. I had no idea this place had existed HERE IN DOWNTOWN BOCA RATON! and predated LION COUNTRY SAFARI!!!! And when I mean here I mean HERE where my building is situated, below is an aerial photograph. It was even on the cover of LIFE MAGAZINE!!! Sadly it no longer exists, but it is celebrated in this website, you must visit AFRICA-USA.COM.
This rare aerial photo of Africa U.S.A. was taken in 1956.
“This web site is a history and virtual tour of Africa U.S.A., an African wildlife tourist attraction that was open from 1953 until 1961. The park was located in Boca Raton, Florida on 300 acres of land near U.S.1.”
HERE is a Video from YouTube of the park in its Heyday courtesy Africa-usa.com “Film from 1956, taken by GeorgeHill.”
And here is one of the most striking photographs of all, an advertising to the park on U.S.1 (Federal Highway)
from the 1950′s (CORRECTION: As Mrs. Pederson states, The camel Photograph Below IS in Boca Raton, but it’s from the 1920′s and NOT about AFRICA-USA, But for a Shriner’s Convention and to draw interest in Boca Raton at the time.
THANK YOU! Mrs. Pederson )
LOOK FOR ANOTHER WHOPPER OF A SECRET NEXT MONTH, THINK “ANCIENT BOCA RATON” LOL!!!!
Before I got my blog, I have had many “Bloggable Moments” I just did not know how to communicate these to everyone.
Here is a case in point. Over the years I have done a lot of Maternity photography at the Boca Raton Community Hospital (Birthing Photography), and with help from my friend, Diane I got to display my work at the Maternity ward at the Boca Raton Community Hospital. This is great! but how do I tell the world? Through this blog!!!!
Here are some photos of my work that is displayed on the walls of the maternity ward at Boca Community.
I often hear from new parents who have seen my work there and decided to contact me.
