United States of America Passport Photo Specs

All photos will be taken according to the US Government guide line and
must pass all seven check list descrilbed in the Gorvanment book.
To obtain a US passport, you need two photos of 2 x 2 inch size.
Make sure that these photos satisfy the Government specs, otherwise they will be rejected and sent back to you.
Please remember, after 9-11, every official ID photos are subject to strict rules.
Unless they are photographed by us, please check your photos again before submit, which will save your time and money.
US passport photo check list:
1) right size of the photo - 2 x 2 inches
2) right size of your head - 1 to 1 3/8 from top of hair to chin
3) background OK? - white back(no blue, no gray)
4) no shadow - shadow is a big thing for US immigration office. we've seen many photos rejected because of the shadow.
3) too light, too dark?
4) your eyes are clearly visible - eye level must be between 1 1/8 to 1 3/4 from bottom of photo.
5) don't smile (at least not too much ) - US government says "Encourage subject to have a natural expression".

United States of America Visa (Citizenship) Photo Specs

INS announced major changes in Green Card and other INS photo standards on August 2nd, 2004.
All immigration photos are now same as US passport photo - straight 2 x 2 inch size.

For citizenship photos, you are required to write your name lightly on back of the photos with a pencil.
It is not, however, easy to write with a regular pencil. We recommend using a 4B to 6B pencil.
They are known as "graphite pencil" or "carbon pencil"

Belgian passport photo - two of 35mm x 45mm

Note: In the British(UK) passport photo form PLE/04 (02/06), there was a phrase after the size of photo(45mm x 35mm) specification, which says " however, please do not trim your photographs to meet this condition". This was very confusing for all of us. In the recent British(UK) passport photo form PLE_01 Eng.Photo Leaflet v5 26/4/04 8:57am page 1, that phrase was removed. It is now simply read 45mm x 35mm. If you have an old form, please rest assured that the size of the British passport photo is simply 45mm x 35mm.

Note: IT is YOUR RESPOSABILITY to specify which type of photos you require (PASSPORT VERSUS VISAS)

1.Canadian passport (with date, store stamp), 2.Canadian Visa(nonimmigrant),and 3.Canadian citizenship photo

Canadian Passport photo - Photos must be taken by a commercial photographer.

The name of the photographer or studio, the address and the date the photo was taken

(not the date the photo was printed) must be provided directly on the back of one (1) photo.

Photos must not have a shadow of the subject on the background and the background must be

white. Size must be 70mm X 50mm ( 2in X 3in ).

Photos must be originals, not taken from an existing photo.

We stamp Canadian Passport pictures with our stamp as per specs.Stamp on back of one of the two photos.

Chinese visa photo - one of 2x2 photo, full face, no hat on.

Czech passport photo - 2 of EU standard passport size(35mm x 45mm).

However, the Czech consulate specifies TWO 2 x 2 photos, only head size according to EU standard.

Estonian passport photo - one of 40mm x 50mm, head size 30mm - 40mm
(min 20mm for 11 and younger), white back, mouth closed. see more details.

The Finnish Government presented Parliament with a proposition for a new passport law.
Although the new passports come into use in August, previously issued passports remain valid until they expire.

Passport photos must be identical.
The head on the picture must measure 25-35 mm (1" - 1 3/8") from chin to crown
and be photographed full front on a light-colored background.
The picture size must be not less than 35-47 mm (1 3/8"- 1 7/8") in size.
Please note:
No touching up of photographs is allowed.
Glasses are acceptable but lenses must not cause any reflections,
For children younger than 11 years old, a photo with a smaller head size is acceptable if blurring or other distortion cannot otherwise be avoided. In such photos, the height of the head must still be at least 25mm.d darkened lenses or shadows cast by frames must not alter the appearance of the eyes.

But their application form is 2" x 2" size

Consulate General of India in San Francisco - clearly stated that the size of the photo is 2x2

Indian OCI ( Overseas Citizenship of India ) - two of 35mm x 35mm with colored background

Italian citizen living in US can submit 2x2 photos also (one for renew, two for new)

Write your name on back of photos - Use special pencil to write on back of photo paper

FOTOGRAFIA En el nuevo tipo de pasaporte es fundamental que la fotografia cumpla una serie de requisitos de forma escrupulosa,

ya que la fotografia no solamente va impresa en el pasaporte para la identificacion de la persona,
sino que se utiliza como marca de agua sobre la zona de datos para evitar la falsificacion.
Por lo tanto, no se podra aceptar una fotografia que no cumpla con los requisitos siguientes:
Debera ser de tamano carnet, en color y con fondo claro, (preferentemente blanco) liso y uniforme,
tomada de frente, sin gafas oscuras ni cualquier otra prenda que impida o dificulte la identificacion de la persona.
En la fotografia, la cara ocupara al menos un 70 por ciento, contado desde el inicio de la barbilla hasta el final de la cabeza.

no headgear or dark eyeglasses, and the applicant's name printed in pencil on the back
